Aerial footage of Thames flooding near Wallingford, with a DJI Phantom 2 Vision camera quadcopter

January 12, 2014

After almost 3 weeks grounded due to bad weather I finally got some more air time. The Thames is in flood so I decided to film at a couple of sites near my home town of Wallingford, accompanied by family friend Ben. The first section is filmed from the site of Wallingford Castle, destroyed in the Civil War but once an important stronghold guarding the Thames. Wallingford bridge seen in the distance spanning the river and flooded water meadows contains some stonework from the 13th century.

We then moved up to Shillingford Bridge (built 1827). Upstream you can see substantial flooding towards Dorchester, and a pretty but now marooned boathouse on the opposite bank.

Another faultless couple of flights from the DJI Phantom 2 Vision quadcopter camera drone, and Ben (aged 10) took the controls for a bit and had no problem with simple manoeuvres and even landed her successfully without any intervention from me.
