DJI Phantom 2, Vision, Plus: Compass Calibration. How to, where to and some of the why…

January 31, 2014

Another video aimed at beginners/newcomers. Compass calibration… Lots of questions seem to come up about this. How do I calibrate the compass? Where do I calibrate the compass? Why should I calibrate the compass? What is this compass dance I’ve been hearing about? What on earth is a compass doing on the Phantom anyway? Relevant to all models: Phantom, Phantom 2, Phantom FC40, Phantom 2 Vision, Vision Plus (Vision+).

I try and answer some of these in the usual style. I’m not going to show you fully how to calibrate – you really need to read the manual on this one, so no spoon-feeding here! I’m not an electronics expert by any means so please don’t ask me anything more technical than I’ve already stated about the compass on your Phantom quadcopter drone, because I don’t know!

My “On the Kitchen Table” videos are mainly aimed at newcomers to multirotors, quadcopters, drones and UAVs, particularly to the DJI product range, and the Phantom line in particular. I have how to’s, product reviews, tips, tricks, hints and information for beginners and those in the early stages of the hobby. I film “on the kitchen table” to show people that, like me, you don’t need a workshop and an array of specialist equipment and years of experience to get started and progress with flying these amazing aircraft and enjoying making great aerial videos and stills. So if you have bought, or are thinking of buying, a DJI Phantom, Phantom FC40, Phantom 2, Phantom 2 Vision or Vision+ or Plus, or even building your own DJI Flamewheel F450 or F550, we can do it… on the kitchen table!
