In challenging conditions (surface winds 10-14mph, gusting 18-20mph) I revisited the Iron Age Hill Fort of Blewburton Hill in South Oxfordshire with the Rotorpixel gimbal on the Phantom 2 Vision.
Dating back over 2,500 years this is one of a string of Hill Forts built close to the ancient byway (and now National Trail) known as The Ridgeway – Britain’s “oldest road” – as it drops towards the River Thames making its way across the Berkshire Downs from Avebury in the west.
The conditions meant the Phantom 2 Vision needed to work hard on its yaw axis, and in a couple of shots you can see props entering the frame as the Rotorpixel brushless 2-axis gimbal did it’s job of holding the camera steady in pitch and roll whilst the quadcopter drone took a buffeting from the strong and gusting winds aloft.
My “On the Kitchen Table” videos are mainly aimed at newcomers to multirotors, quadcopters, drones and UAVs, particularly to the DJI product range, and the Phantom line in particular. I have how to’s, product reviews, tips, tricks, hints and information for beginners and those in the early stages of the hobby. I film “on the kitchen table” to show people that, like me, you don’t need a workshop and an array of specialist equipment and years of experience to get started and progress with flying these amazing aircraft and enjoying making great aerial videos and stills. So if you have bought, or are thinking of buying, a DJI Phantom, Phantom FC40, Phantom 2, Phantom 2 Vision or Vision+, or even building your own DJI Flamewheel F450 or F550, we can do it… on the kitchen table!
