Phantom 2, Vision, Plus – How to avoid/recover from Vortex Ring State or “settling with power”

March 19, 2014

When flying your DJI Phantom 2 Vision or any other quadcopter drone you can potentially get into a perilous condition when descending through propwash (aka “death drop”) in certain circumstances. With the aid of no formal aerodynamics training and a glass of cerveza I try and explain what it is, how you get into it and, most importantly, how you get out of it!

Also thanks to those of you who have sent your best wishes and get well messages to my 3 year old daughter who fractured her ankle at the weekend – we really appreciate it and she’s doing really well with her purple cast, even if it does go from mid-thigh to toes. 🙂

My “On the Kitchen Table” videos are mainly aimed at newcomers to multirotors, quadcopters, drones and UAVs, particularly to the DJI product range, and the Phantom line in particular. I have how to’s, product reviews, tips, tricks, hints and information for beginners and those in the early stages of the hobby. I film “on the kitchen table” to show people that, like me, you don’t need a workshop and an array of specialist equipment and years of experience to get started and progress with flying these amazing aircraft and enjoying making great aerial videos and stills. So if you have bought, or are thinking of buying, a DJI Phantom, Phantom FC40, Phantom 2, Phantom 2 Vision or Vision+ or Plus, or even building your own DJI Flamewheel F450 or F550, we can do it… on the kitchen table!
