Product Review! Anemometer / wind meter for use with your DJI Phantom or other quad

May 6, 2014

Here’s a useful little tool for helping you to stick to your personal flying limits that I’ve been using for a few months – this small and light inexpensive anemometer is easy to stash in your flight case – particularly useful for measuring gusts. I use it when flying my DJI Phantom 2 Vision.

It’s the GM8908 model and I paid the grand total of £8 plus delivery for it. It can display wind speed in mph, m/s, km/h, knots, ft/min and beaufort scale, and has “current”, “max” and “average” measurement modes.

I think this is reasonable value – it seems fairly robust but it’s lightweight and does the job. There is more expensive variant with more features, but for my flying purposes it didn’t make any sense to spend more.

My “On the Kitchen Table” videos are mainly aimed at newcomers to multirotors, quadcopters, drones and UAVs, particularly to the DJI product range, and the Phantom line in particular. I have how to’s, product reviews, tips, tricks, hints and information for beginners and those in the early stages of the hobby. I film “on the kitchen table” to show people that, like me, you don’t need a workshop and an array of specialist equipment and years of experience to get started and progress with flying these amazing aircraft and enjoying making great aerial videos and stills. So if you have bought, or are thinking of buying, a DJI Phantom, Phantom FC40, Phantom 2, Phantom 2 Vision or Vision+, or even building your own DJI Flamewheel F450 or F550, we can do it… on the kitchen table!
