Windy test review footage of Zenmuse H3-3D gimbal on DJI Phantom 2

May 6, 2014

Windy conditions to test how the Phantom 2 with Zenmuse H3-3D 3 axis gimbal and GoPro Hero 3 Silver copes with less than ideal conditions. Surface winds measured with anemometer: average 14-16mph with gusts more than 22mph. GoPro Hero 3 Silver, 1080p/24, medium FOV. No post-processing, edited clips straight from the camera. Bonus shots of a train towards the end!

Great test of the H3-3D gimbal mounted to the DJI Phantom 2. A mixture of hovering and tracking shots in this stiff breeze. I left the audio as recorded from the camera as in several shots you can barely hear the props over the noise of the wind over the mic. The stability in these tricky conditions was remarkable as you’ll see from the way the trees are blowing about. I was getting mild jello when trying to travel upwind at anything other than a very slow pace, but as I was at 70 metres or more for most of the time then winds aloft were going to be very strong and gusty. That’s the first jello I’ve seen from this outfit and it took conditions I probably wouldn’t shoot in if I wasn’t testing, to be honest. The Zenmuse H3-3D continues to impress…

My “On the Kitchen Table” videos are mainly aimed at newcomers to multirotors, quadcopters, drones and UAVs, particularly to the DJI product range, and the Phantom line in particular. I have how to’s, product reviews, tips, tricks, hints and information for beginners and those in the early stages of the hobby. I film “on the kitchen table” to show people that, like me, you don’t need a workshop and an array of specialist equipment and years of experience to get started and progress with flying these amazing aircraft and enjoying making great aerial videos and stills. So if you have bought, or are thinking of buying, a DJI Phantom, Phantom FC40, Phantom 2, Phantom 2 Vision or Vision+, or even building your own DJI Flamewheel F450 or F550, we can do it… on the kitchen table!
