Thanks to one of my channel subscribers (nice one Mike) I’ve discovered what seems to be authentic information about the upcoming release of some big upgrades from DJI for Phantom 2 and Vision+ owners.
These look like briefing/spec sheets for dealers and the implication is that these will be available soon. Here’s a summary of what’s on offer…
UPGRADED TRANSMITTER
Now with built in lipo battery with fuel gauge;
Jog wheel for tilt function (it shows being used with a Vision+ so this looks like the 7th channel activation is imminent as I mentioned in previous videos;
Trainer port – for use in simulators… or with Light Bridge!
Throttle off lock – a detent on the throttle where you can lock it in the fully closed position. Great for hand catchers like me and good for safety.
UPGRADED MOTORS
Promising better performance for no weight penalty when used with the new ESCs – effectively a whole new propulsion system for the Phantom…
NEW PROPS AND COMPASS
Props promise increased performance especially for heavier aircraft and the compass is… anti-static?!
More detail if/when I get it!

Hi My SD card will not load on my ipad or samsung tablet 10.0.
Hi Mark. Do you mean the whole card is unrecognised as a drive or that you can’t view a particular video? If the latter then the solution might be found in this video I made: http://onthekitchentable.info/2014/03/how-to-fix-corrupted-broken-video-files-on-the-dji-phantom-2-vision/
If the whole card is just unreadable then you may need to format it again from within the Vision app. Unfortunately it means you will have lost the data.
Hello. As I understand it the upgrade will allow LightBridge to be used with the P2V+.My understanding is that NOTHING can be done to improve the video down link from the Phantom to the iPad. I do see the difference in the video quality between the video as stored on the mini SD card and what you SEE whilst flying the quad. I have written about this before. so there would also have to be some modification INSIDE the Phantom to SEND HD video to the iPad.
This will mean major modifications me thinks. The cost involved might just about be the same as buying a new Triumph. (If and or when that happens)
I was influenced to buy the P2V+ because of the self centering sticks. This is of huge benefit to many such as myself, but I have since regretted it. Without these upgrades and ignoring the cost, IMHO the P2V+ is a waste of money.
Time will tell if these improvements do come to pass.
Light bridge = 720p video downlink from the aircraft to a tablet or phone. I’m not sure how that will work with a Vision+ (if at all) given the internal WiFi protocol, but it will work with a P2 and GoPro…
I’m considering getting a P2 in the near future. Should I wait a little for these or go ahead now?
The trouble with this industry right now is if you wait for the latest and greatest you’ll never buy anything, as something new seems to pop up every 6 months! I would wait a couple of weeks until it’s officially launched and have a look at the specs and particularly the price.
If you do buy something then make peace with the fact that there’ll be something new along next year and enjoy what you do decide to get and don’t worry about “the next big thing”.

Hi
I have vision 2 plus and I was wondering if it would be worth my while upgrading my compass to the new Phantom 2 series compass. Are there any advantages if I do decide to upgrade? Looking forward to your response.
Hello. As far as I can see the only major difference is the protective cover, they didn’t announce any difference in the actual performance of the compass at all. Personally, I’m not going to touch my compass whilst it’s working fine. If you have concerns your existing compass might be suspect then probably worth changing it over, but as far as I can tell there’s no performance benefit to fitting the new one.
Cheers!
