New Flytrex Live tracker for Phantom 3 and others – in-depth

August 26, 2015

The new improved Flytrex Live 3G Plus is now shipping – so here’s an in-depth look at this drone tracker and how it works with the Phantom 3. Also now available with no solder connections for Inspire 1, Vision+, Phantom 2, Yuneec, 3DR and other drones.

Available from and dealers, the installation is a little fiddly, but way less of a pain than opening the shell on the Phantom 3! In this video we look at what it is, how it works, and how to install on a Phantom 3. I forgot to mention in the video that the entire thing (cables, unit, board and mount) weighs just over 50g – so it should reduce flight times by less than 1 minute.

If you’re a viewer in the UK and want to try a GiffGaff SIM for this you can get £5 free credit when you put £10 on a PAYG sim ordered via this link:

Thanks to Flytrex for supplying the unit. All opinions expressed are my own.

For those that keep asking, the flexible gimbal clamp is available from eBay UK here: and a comparable one (although not tested by me) from eBay US here:

You asked (I’ve no idea why) so now you can buy mugs! See

My “On the Kitchen Table” videos are mainly aimed at newcomers to multirotors, quadcopters, drones and UAVs, particularly to the DJI product range, and the Phantom line in particular. I have how to’s, product reviews, tips, tricks, hints and information for beginners and those in the early stages of the hobby. I film “on the kitchen table” to show people that, like me, you don’t need a workshop and an array of specialist equipment and years of experience to get started and progress with flying these amazing aircraft and enjoying making great aerial videos and stills. So if you have bought, or are thinking of buying, a DJI Phantom 3, Phantom 2, Phantom 2 Vision or Vision+ or Plus, Inspire 1 or even building your own DJI Flamewheel F450 or F550, or considering the Lily, 3DR Solo, Yuneec or more then you too can do it… on the kitchen table!
